I’m surprised how many viking games for PC there are – what is it about the horned hats and delicate beard weavings that allure us so? Making a list of the top 10 viking games is harder than it looks. We present them in no particular order, but some are better than others: Expedition: Vikings and Northgard are particular favourites, and the diddy destruction of Bad North is very endearing. Battle For Asgard is a much broader pick, but it should satisfy the hack-and-slash itch before Assassin’s Creed Valhalla invades our virtual shores.

Of course, vikings aside, these aren;t games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla – they are a mix of tactical RPGs, RTS cleverness and weird boss rush adventures. But they are all viking games on Steam, that you’ll have fun with in the six months before Valhalla turns up. Of course, we’d love to hear your picks of best Viking games – especially if you don’t play on PC. Are there are console classics we’ve not covered. Yes, we know you think God of War should be on the list. We wish it was on PC.

Thanks for watching and hopefully see you again soon.

  1. I’m so relieved AC is less GoW and more differently coiffed British people fighting – but I guess Vikings are always a selling point.

  2. Mount and Blade Bannerlord's Sturgia campaign should have made this list unless EA titles don't count.

  3. Viking games remind me of the great shame I bear from not being able to grow a thick plait able beard

  4. Rune II disappointingly remains really shit even after the recent update, but the original remains a classic.

  5. Glad you mentioned Viking: Battle for Asgard. It's kinda forgotten but I remember having really good time with it. Maybe it wasn't perfect but it surely was fun to play

  6. Start of video: "I'm not that interested in vikings"
End of video: Relises he's played 8 of the 10 games listed & is stroking his beard that has not been trimmed since before lockdown, as he thinks "Maybe I am interested in vikings…"

  7. I just realised the mighty Lost Vikings didn't make the list. Our sincere apologies to Erik, Baleog and Olaf.
